Last night was the fourth staging of the annual Night of Cultura. The title of this year’s show was Guillermo’s Travels. After being a part of the show last year, I had many friends who were in this year’s production. I was most impressed by the overall production of this year’s show. Apart from the lighting at times, the show was a technical success. I was impressed by the set design and how they pulled of the set changes while the actors were still in the scene without being a distraction. The story was inspiring, light-hearted and had a lot of funny moments. It was a pleasant surprise to see that my salsa troupe director from last year, Carlos, can actually act :). The dancing this year was well executed and you could see that a lot of time was put into rehearsing. The folkloric pieces were amazing and the step/stomp routine made me a bit nostalgic about being back in Georgia (yeah I can’t believe it either). I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t do more with the choreography of the Cha-Cha, Bachata and Tango pieces, but the dancers brought them to life nonetheless. Below I have a couple of the dance routines from the final show on Sunday. Links to the other dance routines are at the end of the post.
Guillermo learning to do the Bachata.
Eve trying to seduce Guillermo with the Tango.
An amazing Danza Azteca Routine. (Sorry for the shaky camera work, it was the end of a show and the dance was long.)
